HOW TO GET TO CRETE

1. The easiest way to get to the island of Crete, is by a direct flight to one of the 2 airports. Crete has 2 International airports, one in Heraklion called “International Airport of Heraklion Nikos Kazantzakis” (HER), and one in Chania called “International Airport of Chania Ioannis Daskalogiannis” (CHQ). There is also a small airport at Sitia which entertains charter flights, as well as private planes. The airport of Heraklion is 7km far from the city center, and the airport of Chania is 14km away from the city center.

2. You can also reach Crete by flying to Athens and then take a ferry boat to either Heraklion or Chania. There are three major lines connecting Crete with Piraeus (the port of Athens). For further information you can visit the following web sites:

HOW TO GET TO HERAKLION CAMPUS>>

Once you arrive at the airport of Heraklion you can either take a taxi, or a bus to take you to the place you want.  If you want to come directly to HMU from the Airport by bus, you can use the «BUS NUMBER 12:  “ 12: AIRPORT –TEI AKADIMIA”.

You can check the urban buses routes here. You can also download «Irakleio City Bus» app to your smartphone (change the language to English from «Settings»), and check the remaining minutes until the bus arrives at your bus stop, etc.

In order to reach the campus of the TEI in Chania, you can take either a bus («BUS Number 11: ΧΑΛΕΠΑ – ΕΡΓΑΤΙΚΕΣ ΚΑΤΟΙΚΙΕΣ») or a taxi. You can check the urban buses routes here. TRAVELLING IN CRETE

The main ports of Crete, in Heraklion, Rethymno and Chania are linked daily by boat to Athens, Thessaloniki and the Aegean islands. There are three major lines connecting Crete with Pireus. For further information you can search in the following web sites:

There are many different places to visit in Crete, ranging from the magnificent snow capped mountains, to the sun drenched beaches. There
is an abundance of history in Crete waiting to be explored in many of its historical museums or ancient palaces.

BUSES AND TAXIS

To get onto a city bus you will need to buy a ticket from a mini market or small kiosk. Your student pass will provide you with a 25% discount everywhere including travelling by boats. The Public Bus Service (KTEL) links you to all cities and villages around Crete. www.ktel.org/en/timetable.asp

Taxis from the city to the Hellenic Mediterranean University in Heraklion cost about ~10 euros. Taxis charge more for luggage and during Christmas and Easter holidays.
